Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
